So In Love
We are living in an age where money rules the world and buys anything. Some even place the absolute measure of happiness on material gain. Money, fame and social ascension ? they are all necessary elements in life. While they are conditions of happiness, not the end itself, we are leading our lives not thinking about the meaning and value of life but rather being controlled by material pursuit, without realizing it. It is, of course, up to individuals to set their goal on money, fame, social success, or anything else for that matter, but the choice should be premised on peace of mind. The drama unfolds stories of people who follow the hearts that they were born with, rather than artificial values. “Love” is what gives us the strength to go on in this world. Every human being is bound to love oneself, one’s family and others, and through the love for others, we form yet another family and create another “me.” They say there’s nothing more precious than family in this tough world. That is why it is said that blood is thicker than water. Then from where comes the saying “A family is something you want to throw away if nobody is watching?” Even a family is not built on blood alone. It is built by love. This drama is about “love.” It’s a story about people who are realizing love and about a woman who follows her own heart and toils to win her love. A woman who has everything falls in love with a guy who lives with his grandmother, his widower father and who got his high school diploma only through the equivalency exam. A love is a condensed form of life, and life just doesn’t turn out the way you plan or hope for. Countless mountains and waters await you. This is a story about finding life’s true meaning and happiness by overcoming all adversities with sacrifice, patience and forgiveness, which are all other names for love. This is a story about love fought for. All love requires effort. Here there is a love between a man and woman as represented by Dong-soo and Seon-joo. Dong-soo’s family is formed by blood but founded on love and in Seon-joo’s family, material wealth takes the highest priority. The drama intends to show what we should do to win true happiness and also the fact that a caring, healing and hopeful love can arise between new family relationships created by marriage.
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) missed her curfew while looking around for clothes at a shopping center. Because she hates being scolded by her father Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) more than anything in the world, Seon-joo tries to climb over the wall into her own house, but gets caught by a security guard. Man-bok is not quite happy with his daughter who, to him, seems somewhat lacking of her title ? a daughter of the owner and president of Dae Yang Fisheries. Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) and Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah), living in Donggo-ri, Wando County, are happy to harvest well-grown seaweed. Dong-soo is worried that the seaweed will be sold at a giveaway price at the upcoming sales negotiation with Japanese buyers as he was forced to do previously. Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah), Seon-joo’s younger sister who was actually born in the same year, comes back home only ten months after she set off to study in the United States. Man-bok welcomes his younger daughter who has the brains and expensive taste unlike her sister Seon-joo. Seon-joo is distraught thinking that she is neither pretty nor talented like her sister…
Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) orders Seon-joo to get engaged to Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan), shocking Seon-joo and her mother, Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon), and leaving them baffled. Hyeon-cheol, who has already agreed to the engagement earlier with Man-bok, pretends that he doesn’t know anything and gives an engagement ring to Seon-joo. Then he kisses the bewildered and embarrassed Seon-joo. Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) is running a garment shop in a poor neighborhood, working fiercely to support her two sons, Hyeong-cheol and Su-cheol (Do Ee-seong). Hyeong-cheol tells his mother about the engagement plans. Infinitely proud of her son who seems well on the right track to success, Sun-shim is excited about setting a date for a formal meeting with her future in-laws. Meanwhile, Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon), eager to promote seaweed to a large number of people, enters the second round of negotiation with the Japanese buyers and struggles to get what the product is really worth this time…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) packs her things and leaves home, believing that she can’t dissuade Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol). Confused and not knowing where to go, Seon-joo buys a ticket to Wando, and also ends up buying another for Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek), who is Dong-soo’s father. Pil-doo feels sorry and grateful at once to be helped by a total stranger. Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) is shocked to discover that Seon-joo has rejected him and has run away from home. Awaiting Seon-joo, Sun-shim is happily preparing a feast with the neighbors, but she is fuming with injured pride when she hears from Hyeong-cheol that Seon-joo won’t come to the party. Meanwhile, Seon-joo is snooping around Wando tracing back her distant memories, and almost ends up in serious trouble when Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) arrives to help…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) saves Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) from the water and takes her to his house. Dong-soo plays it by ear and explains to his family that Seon-joo came to Wando to earn money for her siblings’ tuition. Dong-soo’s grandmother Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) feels sympathetic towards Seon-joo. Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) is relieved to find out that Seon-joo is in Wando using a mobile phone tracking service. Seon-joo tries withdrawing money from an ATM only to find out Man-bok has already blocked her access to her bank account. She is devastated. Noticing that Seon-joo is in trouble, Dong-soo offers her to work with him on the seaweed field. While negotiating the price of seaweed with Japanese buyers that are posturing to buy the seaweed dirt cheap, Dong-soo pours gasoline on the seaweed and lights them on fire…
Seon-joo hears from Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) that Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) started working on the seaweed field to earn tuitions for his brother and sister, on behalf of his father Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek). Dong-soo is devastated, having burned the seaweed in front of Japanese buyers, and tries to ease his pain by drinking. He says to Seon-joo that he will succeed with the seaweed business to vindicate himself. Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) thinks Seon-joo is totally disrespectful, not even calling once, and becomes suspicious of the relationship between Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) and Seon-joo. Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) is extremely worried about Seon-joo but her husband Man-bok assures her, saying that Seon-joo left home out of impulse and she will come back soon. Hyeong-cheol pays a visit to Gwi-nyeo before he departs for Wando to find Seon-joo, and Gwi-nyeo is surprised to hear that he’s headed for Wando…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) hides her identity from Dong-seok (Mun Ji-yun), who is suspicious of her, by telling him that her name is Seon-mi. Instructed by Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol), Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) heads for the company’s factory in Busan where an accident has reportedly occurred. Man-bok’s sister O-bok (Kim Ji-young) comes to visit Seon-joo’s house without notice and tension rises between her and Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon). O-bok is exasperated to hear that Man-bok even changed his name because he hated his hometown so much. Gwi-nyeo is not entirely glad to see O-bok who came to her house all of a sudden. Dong-soo is firm on his stance that he will not back out at the seaweed negotiation table with Japanese buyers, but village folks are worried that they might not be able to sell any seaweed at all.
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon)’s brother Dong-seok (Mun Ji-yun) sees his sister Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) being harassed by his friend Chan-woo. Dong-seok is so angry that he tries to bring a big rock down on Chan-woo’s head but Jae-hee hurriedly stops him. Chan-woo’s father, Mr. Jeong, threatens that he will make a settlement with Dong-soo’s family only if Dong-soo agrees to sell seaweed to the Japanese buyers. Utterly shocked, Jae-hee falls ill while Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is busy preparing meals for Dong-soo’s family. Dong-soo visits Chan-woo and says he can’t let Dong-seok become a convict. While trying to stop a fight between Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) and her neighbor, Seon-joo gets a bloody nose. Meanwhile, Dong-soo is at a loss for words as Mr. Jeong demands 30,000 dollars as a condition to clear Dong-seok of his charge.
Having to prepare 30,000 dollars for Dong-seok (Mun Ji-yun)’s settlement, Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) is frustrated and laments of his situation at his mother’s grave. Dong-soo goes off to Seoul and Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye), having lost the desire to work, just stays in bed. Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is disappointed because Dong-soo left for Seoul without even saying goodbye. Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) comes to Wando in search for Seon-joo. He drops by the fisheries market office to ask for direction but finds Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) crying inside, and he hands his handkerchief to her. People from a private investigation agency hired by Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) spot Seon-joo on her way back to Dong-soo’s place from the seaweed field and try to catch her, but Seon-joo runs away with all her strength. After meeting Hyeong-cheol, Seon-joo has to leave the island without even saying goodbye to Dong-soo’s family.
Following Hyeong-cheol back to Seoul after several days, Seon-joo finds everything new and amazing. While Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) is disappointed at Seon-joo for leaving without even saying goodbye, Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek) thinks that there must have been a reason for her sudden departure because he saw Seon-joo being chased by strangers. Just as Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) was getting worried about his missing daughter, he is astonished to see Seon-joo coming back home with her hand in Hyeong-cheol’s. Man-bok is touched by Hyeong-cheol’s thoughtfulness who cares much about Seon-joo. Hyeong-cheol says to Man-bok that he should allow Seon-joo to run an online clothing shop because it is Seon-joo’s thought that matters. Coming back from Seoul, Dong-soo says to his family that they must sell off all their property in Wando to get money for Dong-seok’s settlement and move to Seoul…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) sells the house to get money for Dong-seok’s settlement and starts packing. Dong-seok (Mun Ji-yun) is sorry and angry at Dong-soo, who decided to move to Seoul without discussing it with him. Dong-seok’s punch hurts him even more. Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) praises Hyeong-cheol (Jeong-chan) for taking care of the incident at the Busan factory, and is even happier with Hyeong-cheol’s dependability and his consideration for Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong). Seon-joo is thrilled to receive the first order and asks Gwi-nyeo if she can lend her some money so that she can help Dong-soo’s family. Meanwhile, Seon-joo borrows Hyeong-cheol’s car to go to Wando but she passes by a moving truck without realizing that Dong-soo is sitting in the back of the truck…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) goes to Wando with the money she got from her father Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) only to find out that Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon)’s family has already left for Seoul. To her surprise, Dong-soo’s house is completely empty. Seon-joo is shocked to hear from village folks about what happened to Dong-soo’s family. Dong-soo is discouraged to arrive at his new home, a shabby house on top of a poor hillside neighborhood. Trying to lighten up the mood, Dong-soo says the air is fresh and the house has a good view, but Dong-seok is at a loss for words and Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) crumples to the ground helplessly. Browsing through a clothes market, Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) asks Seon-joo to pick out a dress for his mother Sun-shim (Go Du-shim) and makes his feelings for Seon-joo clear…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) and Hyeong-cheol (Jeong-chan) run into Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) and Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) on their way back home from the early morning clothes market. Seeing Hyeong-cheol carrying the clothes for Seon-joo and being sweet to her, Man-bok pleasantly teases him. Seon-joo is thankful to Hyeong-cheol for asserting that Seon-joo is his woman and for looking after her in such a reliable and caring manner. On her first day at work, Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) is angry because her subordinates alienated her and left work without even throwing a welcoming party for her. Seon-joo is in a sulky mood after coming back from a tea lesson where daughters of affluent families looked down on her because she graduated from a community college. The two sisters go to a nightclub to forget about it all and have some fun. Dong-soo runs into Seon-joo at the nightclub while delivering bottled water…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) is surprised to see Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong)’s new look. Having left Wando without telling him the truth, Seon-joo doesn’t know what to tell him. Dong-soo is angry with her for having him worried so much, and his misunderstanding compounds his anger. Seon-joo avoids explaining what really happened by saying she is there to do some market research. Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) hands over Su-cheol (Doh Ee-seong)’s resume to Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) and asks her to see if there is an opening for him in her team. Su-cheol says he will not receive his brother’s help no matter what. With his pride hurt, Su-cheol is not happy about the fact that his own brother finds him so inadequate all the time. Meanwhile, Seon-joo pays a visit to Dong-soo’s house with a basket full of fruits and gifts. Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) and Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ahh) are delighted to see her…
Upon hearing how Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon)’s family went under, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is enraged without knowing her father was actually the main culprit of the fall. Seon-joo is furious at the story as if it had happened to herself, and says to Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) that Dong-soo must track down whoever is responsible. Seon-joo tries to give the money Dong-soo gave her back to him, but she runs into Sun-shim (Go Du-shim) who lives in the same neighborhood and goes to Hyeong-cheol’s house with her. Dong-soo is relieved by his false assumption that Sun-shim is Seon-joo’s mother. Seon-joo doesn’t know what to do after encountering Sun-shim so unexpectedly, who is very kind to her. Seon-joo and Dong-soo go places in the downtown Seoul area so that Dong-soo can familiarize himself with the streets for his bottled water delivery. Dong-soo says he will drop by the clothes market where Seon-joo will go to the next morning…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is a bit confused to see Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) at the early morning market as she has completely forgotten about what he said the day before. Right then, Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) calls Seon-joo, which gives Dong-soo the wrong idea that Seon-joo is seeing someone. Not giving up on his dream of the seaweed business even after he has left Wando, Dong-soo is excited to hear from Young-man that he has completed the design of a seaweed shredder. Seon-joo looks at Dong-soo with renewed respect as he says that he is not making himself familiarized with Seoul’s street for the delivery work only. Rather, he says, everything he does right now is part of the preparations for his seaweed business. Meanwhile, Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) suggests to Su-cheol (Doh Ee-seong) that he come work for Dae Yang Fisheries. Hyeong-cheol gets mad when his brother accuses him of wanting to marry someone he doesn’t even love.
Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) is shocked to see Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek) searching for Captain Ha (Maeng Sang-hun). Hiding himself so that Pil-doo won’t spot him, Man-bok feels nervous and anxious at the unexpected situation. Remembering when the ship was capsized, Man-bok is reminded of Pil-doo sinking weakly to the floor and hanging his head with despair. Familiarizing himself with Seoul’s streets, Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) is hired as a bottled water deliveryman. Young-man (Kim Jun-ho), who was developing a seaweed shredder, comes to visit Dong-soo in Seoul and the two enjoy their reunion. Dong-soo’s family throws a party to celebrate Dong-soo’s employment. Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) invites Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) over the phone but Seon-joo has already made dinner plans with Hyeong-cheol. After having a lavish dinner with Hyeong-cheol, Seon-joo runs to Dong-soo’s place …
At Dong-soo’s house, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) cannot decline Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye)’s lettuce wrap. Seon-joo admires the closeness between Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek) and Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah). Seon-joo is surprised to hear from Ok-shim that Dong-soo has set aside a portion of the meat for her. Pil-doo is reminded of Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) as he watches Seon-joo eat. Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) is happy to wear the twin rings that Dong-soo gave her for her 60th birthday. It pains Dong-soo to see that the twin rings, which Ok-shim didn’t wear for fear that they would get scratches while she was working out in the seaweed field, are loose on her finger. Ok-shim lets out a sigh, feeling sorry for herself that she keeps getting older and losing her strength as time passes by. Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan) becomes suspicious of Seon-joo after hearing that Seon-joo has gotten a stomachache. Seon-joo is disappointed at Hyeong-cheol who doesn’t even pat her forehead and remembers how Dong-soo pressed between her fingers when she had a stomachache…
After having a stomachache for eating too much, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) doesn’t know what to do when she gets a call from Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) who wants to deliver beef broth that Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) made for her. Seon-joo sneaks out to get the broth and says to her family that she got it from some unknown street on her way back. Man-bok tells the butler to throw it away. Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) gets all dolled up at Man-bok’s dinner invitation. Sun-shim is pleasantly surprised to hear that Man-bok is willing to buy a new house for her family. Su-cheol (Doh Ee-seong) gets a job offer from Hye-joo’s friend, Director Jang, to make a promotional video for Dae Yang Fisheries. Meanwhile, troubled by her missing rings, Ok-shim suspects Seon-joo after listening to Dong-seok (Mun Ji-yun). Dong-soo gets angry with his family for not trusting Seon-mi, and Ok-shim feels sorry that she ruined Dong-soo’s first day at work all because of her missing rings.
Having failed to find Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye)’s twin rings, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) buys a new set out of guilt and goes to Ok-shim. But Ok-shim knows that the rings are not her original ones and gets furious. She tells Seon-joo never to come back. Tears well up in Seon-joo’s eyes at Ok-shim’s harsh words. Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) asks Seon-joo to give up, saying that the engagement with Hyeong-cheol has been only accelerated because Seon-joo ran away from home. Gwi-nyeo inadvertently says that she did not marry Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) out of love and Seon-joo becomes curious whom Gwi-nyeo really loved. After finding out that Dong-seok and Ok-shim said harsh words to Seon-joo, Dong-soo apologizes to her. O-bok (Kim Ji-young) suspects the butler when she failed to find the twin rings and threatens him that she will find out who the thief is at all costs…
While visiting Hyeong-cheol’s office, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) notices that Hyeong-cheol (Jeong Chan)’s secretary is wearing clothes that she sells on her online shop and asks her where she bought them with delight. Seon-joo is very disappointed to hear from the secretary that the clothes are of low quality and that she had to ask her friends, too, to buy clothes from the online shop at Hyeong-cheol’s order. Hyeong-cheol is confounded at the unexpected disclosure and Seon-joo runs out of the office with wounded pride. Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) meets with Su-cheol (Doh Ee-seong) to discuss plans to make the corporate promotional video. Su-cheol looks curiously at Hye-joo who acts like a princess through and through. Su-cheol decides not to take the job, realizing that Hye-joo works for his brother’s company and is Seon-joo’s sister from the business card she gave to him. Hye-joo, very angry at what happened, picks up the scenario that Su-cheol dropped on his way out. Meanwhile, Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) has an interview at Dae Yang Fisheries. Manager Jo is happy with the fact that she knows much about seaweed farming as she has worked on seaweed fields for a long time back in Wando and hires her right away. Though life is not getting any easier for him, Dong-soo enjoys delivering bottled water and has stronger feelings for Seon-joo day after day…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hun) is astonished to hear from a waiter that Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is actually the nightclub owner’s daughter. His shock is doubled when he finds out Seon-joo lied about her name. Dong-soo then freezes up as he realizes that Seon-joo helped him by ordering bottled water to her father’s nightclub. At Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim)’s invitation of Seon-joo to her house, Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) sends her daughter with a box of expensive mushrooms. Having completely forgotten about the invitation, Seon-joo visits Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) instead. Tears are in Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye)’s eyes when she hears from Seon-joo about Dong-soo’s childhood. Dong-soo calls Seon-joo and says he wants to meet her at the rooftop house, which Seon-joo lied to be her home. Seon-joo is nervous and surprised to find Dong-soo’s hateful gaze on her. Dong-soo coldly asks her who she really is.
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is unable to come up with an excuse and helplessly sobs in front of Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) who is furious at her for having lied to him and his family. Dong-soo shows contempt and coldly turns his back against her saying that his whole family has been fooled by a rich family’s daughter. Seeing the cold side of Dong-soo for the first time, Seon-joo doesn’t know what to do and simply sheds tears. Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) becomes outrageous when she discovers that the mushrooms Seon-joo delivered on behalf of Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) have already passed the expiration date. Sun-shim is very disappointed and hurt, thinking that Gwi-nyeo looks down on her. In the end, Sun-shim calls Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) and tells him what happened with the mushrooms, at which Man-bok loses his temper and gets infuriated. Meanwhile, O-bok (Kim Ji-young) finds the twin rings that Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) lost and feels triumphant…
Captain Ha (Maeng Sang-hun) pays a visit to Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) and greets him warmly but Man-bok is not happy to see him. Man-bok is anxious, not knowing how Captain Ha found him. Man-bok hands over an envelope of cash to Captain Ha and tells him not to come looking for him ever again. Intimidated by Man-bok’s charisma, Captain Ha can’t say a thing. Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) invites Sun-shim (Go Du-shim) over to her place. Only then, is Sun-shim’s anger appeased. O-bok (Kim Ji-young) is busy preparing Wando-style food and is sorry to see Seon-joo so heartbroken because of Dong-soo. Seon-joo goes to Dong-soo’s house. She bursts into tears when treated coldly by Ok-shim, Pil-doo and Dong-seok who are angry with her. Dong-soo passes her by as if she is invisible. At a loss for words, Seon-joo sinks weakly to the floor in front of Dong-soo’s house…
Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) loses his calm when he sees Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) who looks just like Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek) at his nightclub. Paged by his father, Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) hurriedly arrives at the nightclub and makes up a story to her father that Dong-soo is her friend’s brother. Man-bok lets out a sigh of relief, thinking that Dong-soo is not related to Pil-doo. Jae-hee begins the kelp-noodle promotion at a super market. Jae-hee never loses her smile even when Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) and her neighbors come to the market and harass her on purpose, as asked by Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) to test her, and gets the highest score among the salespeople. Sun-shim praises Jae-hee and Hyeong-cheol becomes curious of her. Meanwhile, Seon-joo wants to meet and talk to Dong-soo but Dong-soo is still cold and doesn’t even look at Seon-joo. Although Dong-soo gives a glance at Seon-joo who is shedding tears at Dong-soo’s coldness, he doesn’t seem like he’s going to open his mouth and talk…
Dying to explain herself to Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon), Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) clings to Dong-soo’s truck. Startled, Dong-soo carries Seon-joo down from the truck. A little shaken by the incident, Dong-soo gets furious and asks her what she is thinking. Seon-joo says she is willing to risk her life to explain what really happened. She becomes a bit more hopeful to see Dong-soo walking in front of her. Invited to Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol)’s place, Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) is busy looking around the extravagant house, but her pride in her son Hyeong-chan (Jung-chan) remains undiminished. The invisible battle between Sun-shim and Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) continues and Seon-joo is uncomfortable with the tension between the two. Having found Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye)’s real twin rings this time, Seon-joo heads to Dong-soo’s house with them. Still feeling betrayed and fooled by Seon-joo, Ok-shim treats Seon-joo coldly. Seon-joo begins doing the laundry to get Ok-shim’s forgiveness…
Selling kelp noodles at a supermarket, Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) is disappointed that Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) does not recognize her. But she is too timid to introduce herself. Hyeong-cheol finds Jae-hee odd because she stiffens each time he is in front of her despite being very friendly to other customers. Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) goes to Dong-soo’s house again and insists on cleaning the house and cooking for Dong-soo’s family. Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) is baffled to see Seon-joo smiling brightly in spite of the cold treatment by Ok-shim’s family. Seon-joo is clumsy in the kitchen, since she has never cooked even at her own house, and keeps making mistakes. She is embarrassed and sad to see a stern look on Ok-shim’s face. Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) gives Su-cheol (Doh Ee-seong)’s scenario back, offering to work with him. Su-cheol turns down Hye-joo’s offer saying that Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) is his brother, but is then tempted by the production fee suggested by Hye-joo…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) is full of tears after rubbing her eyes with garlic-covered hands, but Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) coldheartedly kicks her out of his house. Not knowing what to do, Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) just watches Seon-joo being chased off sympathetically. Dong-soo feels bad when he hears that Seon-joo had a hard time doing the housework and regrets his coldness to her just before. Out shopping after a long while, Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) runs into Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) at a shopping mall. When Sun-shim says she will buy the best ring for Seon-joo’s wedding gift, Gwi-nyeo takes her to a luxurious jewelry shop. Completely disheartened after seeing the price tag of a three-carat diamond ring, Sun-shim comes home and worries herself sick, which makes Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) feel sorry for his mother. Seon-joo finds Dong-soo’s house again with a pair of reading glasses for Ok-shim, but Dong-soo kicks her out of his house again. Seon-joo protests that Dong-soo doesn’t see her true intentions, but Dong-soo makes himself sharply clear that he doesn’t want to see Seon-joo any more.
Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) puts a ring on Seon-joo’s finger saying that he got the ring on behalf of Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim). Seon-joo is perplexed to receive a ring in the middle of the day without any accompanying romantic event. Seon-joo is hurt as she watches Hyeong-cheol putting the ring on her finger without a hint of warmness and love. Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) asks Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) to be the model for her online clothing shop, but Jae-hee rejects Seon-joo’s offer out of consideration for Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon). Seon-joo tries to talk Jae-hee into it, saying that Dong-soo doesn’t have to know. When Jae-hee asks Seon-joo if she believes in love by fate, she answers that she doesn’t really know since she has never experienced such a thing. Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) is in a good mood to see the ring on Seon-joo’s finger. Having been suspicious of Seon-joo, Hyeong-cheol questions Seon-joo who it was that delivered bottled water to Icarus before.
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) and Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) come across each other for the first time as they happen to chase after a pickpocket together. Without knowing each other’s identity, they even give money to the boy after finding out that he was supporting his ill father in a very poor household. They go separate ways when Hyeong-cheol runs into Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) running an errand for her grandmother. Feeling the pressure, Hyeong-cheol suggests Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) that he should close down Seon-joo’s online shop and move on with the engagement as quickly as possible. Seon-joo’s feelings for Dong-soo become stronger. Dong-soo and Young-man, bent on developing a new seaweed shredder, are short of financial resources and are trying to find an investor. Meanwhile, Seon-joo is crying because she misses Dong-soo so much when she runs into Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek), who is completely drunk. Hit with a stick by thugs who were after Pil-doo’s wallet, Seon-joo falls to the ground screaming.
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) falls down after being hit by thugs on her shoulders who were after Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek). Feelings well up inside Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) when he sees Seon-joo being so timid towards him, and he looks at Seon-joo with sympathy. Although Seon-joo can barely move her body because of her aching shoulders, she falls asleep peacefully. Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) is very worried about Seon-joo, so she steams ground ginger and spring onions, and puts them in a box for Dong-soo to deliver. Seon-joo is so happy to hear Dong-soo asking to see her that she even forgets her shoulders are aching. Coincidentally, Hyeong-cheol is on his way to Seon-joo’s house when he stiffens at the sight of Dong-soo’s back. Meanwhile, Dong-soo tells Seon-joo that she does not need to come to his house again and to go on with her life with a peace of mind now that all the misunderstanding has been dispelled, but Seon-joo is hurt by Dong-soo’s words and begins to cry. Disappointed at Dong-soo, who remains cold toward her, Seon-joo ends up confessing her love for him…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) can’t hide how perplexed he is to hear Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong)’s confession and is scared at the same time, as he feels the reality is too difficult for him to come to terms with. Knowing who Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) is, Dong-soo persuades her to think it through, saying that she is supposed to marry someone else. Seon-joo is also confused because she is not quite certain of her feelings. With O-bok (Kim Ji-young) gone, Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) enjoys her freedom at home after a long while. Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) tells Gwi-nyeo to arrange a blind date for Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah), but Hye-joo says Seon-joo’s marriage should precede hers. Realizing Man-bok’s ambitions, Seon-joo suddenly becomes frightened of her father. Meanwhile, O-bok (Kim Ji-young) has not boarded a plane bound for the United States and stays at a public sauna near the airport instead, without telling Gwi-nyeo. To her dismay, she is mistaken for a member of homemakers engaged in illegal gambling and gets arrested by the police…
Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) is shocked to see O-bok (Kim Ji-young) arrested for illegal gambling on TV. Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) gets a false idea that O-bok has come back to Korea from the U.S. just to gamble and Man-bok shudders at the thought. At that very moment, Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) and Pil-doo (Jeon Il-taek) also see O-bok on TV and wonder if she is someone that they know. Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) finds out that Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) needs a huge sum of money to develop the seaweed shredder, and meets up with Young-man to give her money to him. She repeatedly asks Young-man to be discreet when delivering the money to Dong-soo, but Young-man is bewildered, not knowing what to do. Meanwhile, a premier for a movie on which Su-cheol (Do Ee-seong) worked as an assistant director is held. There, Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim) and Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) spot Seon-joo and Dong-soo who are there on their date.
Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) stiffens with a fury to discover that Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) lied to him again and came to the theater with Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon). Not knowing any of this, Seon-joo is happy and delighted to be with Dong-soo. Soo-cheol (Doh Ee-seong) gets mixed feelings to see Hyeong-cheol, and Seon-joo and Dong-soo. Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) invites Captain Ha (Maeng Sang-hun) with a job offer. Having got hold of Pil-doo (Jeon In-taek)’s phone number, Man-bok deletes the number saved on Captain Ha’s cell phone. Seon-joo is uncomfortable to spend time with Hyeong-cheol because of her feelings for Dong-soo. When Hyeong-cheol invites Seon-joo to attend his father’s memorial, Seon-joo firmly rejects the invitation, saying that she doesn’t need to attend the memorial since they aren’t even married yet. Hyeong-cheol is baffled to see Seon-joo expressing her idea clearly for the first time…
Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) asks Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan) if he loves her. Perplexed, Hyeon-cheol quickly answers that he does. Knowing by instinct that Hyeong-cheol’s answer is not genuine, Seon-joo puts several questions to Hyeong-cheol based on her feelings for Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon). Hyeong-cheol is baffled, not knowing what is on her mind. Ok-shim (Yeo Wun-gye) is disappointed because no one in her family seems to remember that it’s her birthday. She can’t say so herself, so she’s agitated, simply hoping that someone will notice before the day is over. While checking to see when Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) can take a day off, Seon-joo realizes that it is Ok-shim’s birthday, so she bakes a sweet potato cake by herself. After getting the seaweed soup recipe from O-bok (Kim Ji-young), Seon-joo heads to Dong-soo’s house. Meanwhile, after holding his father’s memorial with Sun-shim (Goh Du-shim), an occasion Seon-joo refused to attend, Hyeong-cheol sees Seon-joo and Dong-soo close together in front of his house and offers his hand to Dong-soo…
Dong-soo (Kim Ji-hoon) is surprised to see Hyeong-cheol (Jung Chan)’s bold attitude and sharp gaze on him, but he quickly regains his composure and shakes hands with him. Seon-joo (Jo Yeo-jeong) doesn’t know what to do at the unexpected situation. She is uncomfortable with Hyeong-cheol who treats her as if he had no idea about what is really going on. Actually quite angry, Hyeong-cheol is taken aback that Seon-joo is not even apologizing to him. To make matters worse, Seon-joo confesses that she is in love with Dong-soo. Man-bok (Kim Young-cheol) hurries on with Seon-joo’s engagement preparations and demands Seon-joo to return the fund that she borrowed from him to start her online shop. Having already given the money to Dong-soo to help him start his own business, Seon-joo asks Gwi-nyeo (Kim Bo-yeon) and Hye-joo (Yun Se-ah) to lend her money. Hye-joo gets a wrong idea that Seon-joo is borrowing money for Hyeong-cheol’s sake. Meanwhile, Jae-hee (Shin Ju-ah) runs into Hyeong-cheol again at the supermarket and with much difficulty, brings up the handkerchief incident back in Wando. Hyeong-cheol, who initially approached Jae-hee to learn more about Dong-soo, pretends that he doesn’t know anything about it and asks her out instead…
While having dinner together with Dong-soo, Seon-joo becomes excited when he picks the same menu as hers, thinking that they are really connected. Seon-joo says that she has already confessed her love for Dong-soo to Hyeong-cheol. Dong-soo disapproves, saying that she shouldn’t have acted on impulse, but Seon-joo doesn’t agree with him. Seon-joo promises to Dong-soo that from now on, she will be true to her feelings and be entirely responsible for her own life. Hyeong-cheol gives a presentation on his business plan for selling seaweed products at the executive meeting, which is very well received by directors, but Man-bok is not quite happy with the plan. Captain Ha gets a job by nagging Man-bok. Man-bok completely ignores Captain Ha who says he misses Gwi-nyeo, Seon-joo and Hye-joo, and tells him to keep his mouth shut about their past. Meanwhile, Dong-soo is baffled when Hyeong-cheol comes to see him and tells him not to use Seon-joo for her money. Hyeong-cheol warns him never to show up in front of Seon-joo again…
Dong-soo gives the money back to Seon-joo and expresses his long overdue gratitude to her. With a much lighter heart, Seon-joo is touched by Dong-soo’s sincerity and reports her business accounting book successfully. Man-bok is surprised to hear that Seon-joo’s online shopping business has actually posted profit, albeit very small. Hyeong-cheol begins taking things seriously as he feels Seon-joo is more determined to keep distance from him. Gwi-nyeo and Hye-joo are apprehensive as they found out that Seon-joo is seeing another man. However, Sun-shim, totally unaware of what is going on, is only excited that she will soon move into a new, bigger place. Meanwhile, after having a romantic time together at a drive-in-theater, Dong-soo and Seon-joo run into Hyeong-cheol on their way back. Hyeong-cheol says to Dong-soo that if it is Seon-joo’s money that he is after, he will finance Dong-soo’s business instead…
Hyeong-cheol is exasperated when Dong-soo says he is in love with Seon-joo and tries to punch Dong-soo. Though Dong-soo does not want to deal with Hyeong-cheol, he has got nothing to be ashamed, as his love for Seon-joo is strong. Having thought that he’d marry Seon-joo no matter what, Hyeong-cheol begins to feel uneasy to find Dong-soo so confident. Because Seon-joo has been delaying in setting the date for the engagement ceremony, Sun-shim asks Seon-joo to drop by her place so that they can settle the engagement plans once and for all. Seon-joo gathers courage and tells Sun-shim that she can’t go ahead with the engagement plans. Sun-shim is befuddled as if a bomb has been dropped on her lap. To make matters worse, Seon-joo asks Hyeong-cheol to dissuade her father, severely crushing Hyeong-cheol’s pride. Meanwhile, out on a blind date with some guy whose father owns a giant corporation, Hyeo-joo’s pride takes a huge hit when her date takes off after spending only twenty obligatory minutes with her, so she drinks herself unconscious. Having received a call from a staff there, Su-cheol runs to the bar where, mistaken by Hye-joo as the hot shot from before, gets knocked down by Hye-joo’s fist.
Dong-soo asks Seon-joo to allow him some time. Dong-soo says that though he has nothing to call his own at the moment, he will make her happy. Seon-joo is so touched by Dong-soo’s words that she sheds tears of happiness. Dong-soo holds Seon-joo’s hands and assures her that they will overcome all the obstacles that they may face in the future. Having been ditched by a guy whose father is the owner of a conglomerate, Hye-joo drinks herself unconscious and is carried back home on Su-cheol’s back. Man-bok, Gwi-nyeo, O-bok are both aghast and infuriated. With his pride deeply wounded, Man-bok says this is exactly why he should expand his business. Gwi-nyeo tries to talk him out of his ambition to be connected with a family that owns a conglomerate by marriage, but his determination is unshakable. Meanwhile, Seon-joo tells everything about Dong-soo and his family to her mother and gives her ring back to Hyeong-cheol with an apology...
Seon-joo is determined not to go ahead with the engagement with Hyeong-cheol and is about to inform her father of her decision. Gwi-nyeo tries to dissuade her from it, saying that while a marriage without love may be unhappy, love shouldn’t be the only reason to marry someone either. But Seon-joo’s heart is already with Dong-soo. Seon-joo’s love for Dong-soo is what keeps Dong-soo going. He works harder for his seaweed business without feeling a hint of exhaustion. Out in the early morning market to help Seon-joo, Dong-soo runs into Hyeon-cheol, who knocks him down with a punch. Seon-joo takes off with Dong-soo, leaving Hyeong-cheol behind, and Hyeon-cheol clenches his teeth.
Meanwhile, looking at Dong-soo with sympathy whose nose is bleeding from Hyeong-cheol’s punch, Seon-joo wipes his face clean. She is so sorry about the whole situation that she doesn’t know what to do. Feeling sorry and grateful for Seon-joo being like that, Dong-soo softly kisses on Seon-joo’s nose and feels shy and embarrassed at once…
Seon-joo confesses to Man-bok that she is in love with someone. Man-bok is baffled at the unexpected development and asks her what kind of person this man is. Seon-joo introduces Dong-soo as a guy who delivers bottled water, which only doubles Man-bok’s shock, as he has already run into him at Icarus. O-bok is happy to see Captain Ha after so many years, so she asks him about a lot of things, but Captain Ha feels uneasy, fearing that Man-bok will find out about their encounter. Su-cheol jokingly gloats over having witnessed Hye-joo drunk and unconscious. Not remembering the night’s incident, Hye-joo is frustrated because she can’t boss around Su-cheol as much as she wants. Meanwhile, Hyeong-cheol tries to dissuade Seon-joo from canceling the engagement plans, saying that they have come too far to call it quits, but Seon-joo’s determination remains unshaken. Being with Dong-soo, Seon-joo’s heart aches to watch Dong-soo singing to make her feel better. Not wanting to say good-bye, Seon-joo runs back to Dong-soo and kisses him on the cheek.
Immediately after witnessing Seon-joo happily kissing Dong-soo on the cheek, Hyeong-cheol runs to Man-bok’s house. Hyeong-cheol insists on setting the date for the engagement ceremony without even giving a chance for Seon-joo to speak on the matter. Seon-joo is completely dumbfounded. Gwi-nyeo and Seon-joo are appalled at Hyeong-cheol’s words that he wouldn’t have stayed with Man-bok to build the company together if he had not loved Seon-joo in the first place. While tracing back her memory, Hye-joo remembers Su-cheol slapping her in the cheek and asks him to drop by her office early next morning. Getting slapped in the cheek by Hye-joo completely out of the blue, Su-cheol says it was Hye-joo who slapped him first and that he wants to terminate the contract. Meanwhile, Seon-joo accompanies Gwi-nyeo to meet Sun-shim. Sun-shim’s face brightens up at the thought of booking a venue for the engagement ceremony and she goes on bragging about the upcoming event to her neighbors. Gwi-nyeo tries comfort Seon-joo, saying that she could live her life with the memory of the man she loved, but Seon-joo runs away from the car, abandoning her mother in the car…
Seon-joo runs away from Gwi-nyeo and off to Dong-soo’s house to meet Ok-shim who called her just then. At the tense situation, Gwi-nyeo calls Hyeong-cheol andtells him that Seon-joo ran away. At that very moment, Ok-shim and Seon-joo are enjoying themselves while visiting an aquarium and other famous attractions in Seoul. Ok-shim senses that something serious is going on between Seon-joo and Dong-soo. Hyeong-cheol sets the date for the engagement ceremony without Seon-joo’s agreement and even reserves the wedding venue in front of Gwi-nyeo and Sun-shim. Seon-joo asks Dong-soo why he loves her, but Dong-soo awkwardly answers that there is no reason and confesses that Seon-joo has entered his heart without him even knowing, with a shy look on his face. Led by Hyeong-cheol’s hand, Seon-joo is taken to Sun-shim’s house. Seon-joo kneels before Sun-shim and asks for her forgiveness with a sincere apology. Initially hardened by Seon-joo’s unwillingness to marry her son, Sun-shim is now appalled by Seon-joo’s confession that she is in love with someone else…
Back home from Hyeong-cheol’s house, Seon-joo falls after getting slapped by an enraged Man-bok. Sean-joo cries bitterly, begging her father to please understand her but Man-bok yells at her, telling to leave the house at once if she is not going to marry Hyeong-cheol. Man-bok is beside himself with rage and no one in the family can stop him from kicking Seon-joo out of the house. Dong-soo announces to his family that he is dating Seon-joo, which makes Pil-doo quite surprised. Having been kicked out of her house, Seon-joo is sobbing when Dong-soo calls her. Dong-soo worries about Seon-joo who says her voice is different because she has caught a cold. Meanwhile, having received his first paycheck, Dong-soo puts on his fine clothes and gives Seon-joo a thermos of ginger tea and a very simple ring. Dong-soo is afraid that his gift is too simple, but Seon-joo is deeply touched by his words and appreciates everything that he did for her. At that very moment, Hyeong-cheol calls and asks Dong-soo to meet him in private…
Hyeong-cheol tells Dong-soo that he and Seon-joo’s engagement ceremony will take place as planned. Firmly believing that Seon-joo wouldn’t have lied to him, Dong-soo is unshaken by Hyeong-cheol’s bluff and decides to trust her no matter what. Discovering that Seon-joo is a daughter of Daeyang Fisheries’ owner, however, Dong-soo is suddenly struck with insecurity as Hyeong-cheol confidently says that he and Seon-joo can never been separated. Dropping by her house to get her clothes and things, Seon-joo is caught by Gwi-nyeo, to whom Seon-joo begs to meet Dong-soo just once. Realizing that she can’t hold her daughter back by force any more, Gwi-nyeo says that she will meet Dong-soo, but if she thinks Dong-soo is not the right man for her daughter, Seon-joo must give him up. Seeing Dong-soo only for the first time, Gwi-nyeo knows with certainty that Dong-soo is Pil-doo’s son and hurriedly takes off. Meanwhile, Dong-soo calls Seon-joo up and the two head to Seon-joo’s house together. O-bok, Gwi-nyeo and Man-bok are flabbergasted to see the two entering the house…
Dong-soo steels himself and accompanies Seon-joo into her house. Furious, Man-bok refuses to even listen to him. But Gwi-nyeo tells him that, as Seon-joo’s mother, she will at least hear him out. Dong-soo boldly states that although he has nothing to his name right now, he loves Seon-joo with all his heart. Hearing Dong-soo’s words, Seon-joo feels her heart fill with emotion. Gwi-nyeo is pained, but Man-bok persists in ignoring Dong-soo. Hyeong-cheol tells Dong-soo that one can’t live one’s whole life on love alone and urges him to give up. But Dong-soo retorts that a person should not live wholly for another, and argues that they must respect Seon-joo’s choice. Later, Jae-hee supports Hyeong-cheol, who is completely drunk, and heads to his house, but runs into Su-cheol on the way. Startled by the sudden encounter, Jae-hee flees the spot without even telling Su-cheol who she is…
Seon-joo happens to overhear a conversation between Man-bok and Hyeong-cheol. She is dumbfounded to learn that Man-bok allowed Seon-joo to run the shopping mall on the condition that she and Hyeong-cheol get engaged. Enraged, Seon-joo pronounces that she would never marry Hyeong-cheol even if Dong-soo weren’t in the picture, and warns her father to stop trying to control her life. Hyeong-cheol attempts to purchase Young-man’s seaweed particle technology through Mr. Cho, but becomes incensed when he discovers that Dong-soo is also involved in its development. Crying out in frustration that he is one step behind Dong-soo, who has already filed for a patent, Hyeong-cheol grits his teeth and vows that he can never give up the seaweed product. Meanwhile, Man-bok stops by Icarus and is appalled to see Pil-doo, Dong-soo, and Seon-joo busily preparing for the opening of a drinking stall…
Confirming with his own eyes that Dong-soo is Pil-doo’s son, Man-bok staggers on his feet. Seon-joo returns home after helping with the opening of the drinking stall. When Gwi-nyeo hears from her daughter about the hard life Pil-doo has been leading, her heart aches. She enjoins Seon-joo never to tell Pil-doo about Man-bok, and Seon-joo finds this puzzling. Su-cheol taunts Hye-joo by calling her the world’s biggest opportunist for supporting her sister’s marriage to Hyeong-cheol solely on the grounds that he is a rich man’s son. Irritated, Hye-joo exclaims that Su-cheol displayed a total lack of etiquette by leaving before she did. When Su-cheol suddenly appears in front of her, Hye-joo is taken aback. Losing her balance, she falls on top of him. They share a brief kiss, which throws Hye-joo into confusion. The holdup on Hyeong-cheol and Seon-joo’s engagement causes Sun-shim to lose the down payment she made on the new house. She becomes exasperated and suggests to her son that they give up the engagement altogether. Bursting out in anger, Hyeong-cheol declares that he will marry Seon-joo no matter what, now that his pride is on the line…
Seon-joo feels choked with rage and sorrow when she finds out that the person who interfered with the opening of Pil-doo’s drinking stall is none other than her own father. Gwi-nyeo, O-bok, and Hye-joo watch in stunned silence as Seon-joo cries out that Man-bok has crushed the hopes of innocent people. Hyeong-cheol instructs Sun-shim to cancel the engagement ceremony and move straight on to the wedding. Sun-shim looks gravely at her son, whose eyes have taken on a malicious glint. Perceiving that Hyeong-cheol, who had always been impeccably self-possessed, has begun to change, she becomes deeply concerned. Meanwhile, the owner of the bottled water dealership falls for Man-bok’s scheme and asks Dong-soo to quit, although it pains him greatly to do so. Dong-soo is astonished and perturbed to see how far Man-bok is willing to go…
Pil-doo comes to see Man-bok. Unable to avoid him any longer, Man-bok meets Pil-doo’s gaze straight on. Pil-doo is baffled to learn that Man-bok has changed his name and become a successful businessman, and that Dong-soo’s beloved Seon-joo is actually Man-bok’s daughter. He feels betrayed by Man-bok’s cold attitude toward him. Seon-joo devotedly nurses Ok-shim, whose shoulder was injured by the men Man-bok sent to ruin the opening of Pil-doo’s drinking stall. She also takes on all the housework for Dong-soo’s family, and Pil-doo is distressed to see Seon-joo this way. However, Man-bok threatens Seon-joo that she has no choice but to marry Hyeong-cheol if she doesn’t want Dong-soo to get hurt. Meanwhile, Hye-joo is puzzled to find herself becoming stirred at the memory of her kiss with Su-cheol. Su-cheol also starts to nurture his growing feelings for Hye-joo…
Seon-joo pleads tearfully with Hyeong-cheol to let her go, saying that she can’t do anything without Dong-soo. But Hyeong-cheol counters that one can’t stake one’s life on love alone, and declares that he will never acknowledge her love for Dong-soo. When Seon-joo points out that he simply can’t understand because he has never experienced real love, Hyeong-cheol’s pride is hurt and he ignores her remark. Man-bok prepares the invitations for Hyeong-cheol and Seon-joo’s wedding. Alarmed, Seon-joo asks Man-bok to reconsider Dong-soo one more time, since he is the son of Man-bok’s old friends Pil-doo. Man-bok, who has turned his back on his friend because of the boating accident, persists in hiding his past from his daughter despite being tortured about it. Meanwhile, in the early morning hours, Seon-joo puts on the ring Dong-soo has given her and announces to her family her firm resolution not simply to run away from home, but to live independently on her own steam. Enraged, Man-bok seizes her and confines her in the house…
Man-bok takes off Seon-joo’s ring by force. He gives it to O-bok and tells her to toss it out at once. Seeing Seon-joo weeping and pleading with Man-bok, O-bok takes pity on her and only pretends to throw the ring away, then puts it aside for safe keeping instead. Overwhelmed with resentment at her father’s betrayal and seething with humiliation, Seon-joo tries to get away. But Man-bok calls in his men and has Seon-joo confined to the house. In order to get his hands on Dong-soo’s seaweed machine, Hyeong-cheol proposes to the owner of the factory that he’ll buy the machine for five times its price if Dong-soo fails to pay off the remaining balance. Sun-shim, already worried that her son’s judgment has been compromised because of his desire to marry Seon-joo, is shocked to hear from Gwi-nyeo that Seon-joo has no intention of marrying Hyeong-cheol. Meanwhile, Hye-joo, who begins working on the promotional video production with Su-cheol, is irked to find him behaving so familiarly with her. Su-cheol, in turn, is unsettled by her attitude toward him. The two of them clash over every single thing, whether they are on the production set or at a company dinner. When Hye-joo sees Su-cheol dancing intimately with an actress, she goes off in a huff…
Hye-joo comes to see Dong-soo and tells him, to his great distress, that Seon-joo is being held inside the house against her will. Dong-soo and Seon-joo reunite across the iron gate of her house. With tears running down their faces, they encourage each other to persevere. After watching them from afar, Man-bok threatens to kill Dong-soo if he ever shows his face to Seon-joo again, but Dong-soo politely bows and turns around to leave. Hurt by Su-cheol’s indifference, Hye-joo tries to console herself. But when she is unable to quiet her frustration, she makes the mistake of plopping face-down on her pillow without washing off her mud mask. Su-cheol sends Hye-joo a text message explaining that he wanted to have the last dance with her, and she is infuriated at the implication that she has been acting out of jealousy. Meanwhile, Gwi-nyeo goes to Dong-soo’s house and begs Ok-shim for forgiveness in Man-bok’s stead. However, Ok-shim, who had previously been ignorant of the fact that Man-bok was behind everything, sheds tears of betrayal and reunites with Pil-doo…
Forced to watch helplessly as Dong-soo is surrounded and beaten by the men Man-bok has brought with him, Seon-joo loses consciousness from the shock. Alarmed, Man-bok rushes Seon-joo back to the house. Gwi-nyeo and O-bok are struck speechless by Man-bok’s cruelty, but Man-bok is feeling tortured as well. Gwi-nyeo visits Dong-soo in the hospital and offers him the consolation money that she originally planned to give Pil-doo. He says that he will take her good intentions only, and asks her to let Seon-joo know that he is okay. Gwi-nyeo finds Dong-soo goodhearted and reliable, but is pained to know that she is unable to do anything for him. Meanwhile, the actress, pushed beyond endurance by Hye-joo’s finicky demands, declares to Su-cheol that she has had it and stomps off in the middle of shooting. Su-cheol is flabbergasted at the crew’s suggestion that it would be just as well to have Hye-joo star in the video…
In order to check on Dong-soo, Seon-joo escapes the house with the help of Gwi-nyeo and O-bok. She goes to Dong-soo’s house, but Jae-hee turns her back on Seon-joo with a stern face, while Dong-seok and Ok-shim burst out in anger. Seeing Dong-soo laid up, Seon-joo makes a firm resolution, and Dong-soo watches her with apprehension. Returning home, Seon-joo tells Man-bok that she has broken up with Dong-soo and warns him never to harass Dong-soo’s family again. She also declares that she has no intention of marrying Hyeong-cheol and avers that she will not even drink a single drop of water if she is forced to. Gwi-nyeo, who understands Seon-joo from her heart, advises the appalled Man-bok not take Seon-joo’s determination lightly. Sun-shim exhorts Hyeong-cheol to give up his marriage to Seon-joo, but his obstinacy grows ever stronger. Finally, Hyeong-cheol submits his resignation to Man-bok, saying that he knows Seon-joo is being kept prisoner in her own house…
Man-bok tells Seon-joo, who has been fasting, that he will call off her marriage to Hyeong-cheol and asks her to accompany him to the company’s founding celebration. Seon-joo finds her father’s sudden change rather suspicious, but decides to give him the benefit of the doubt. Man-bok stresses to Gwi-nyeo that a union with Dong-soo is out of the question even if Seon-joo does not end up marrying Hyeong-cheol, and warns her to abandon such futile thoughts. Pil-doo entreats Dong-soo to give Seon-joo up. However, Dong-soo states that, despite his family’s troubles, he simply cannot turn his back on Seon-joo when she remains devoted to him even after being locked up in her own home. Pil-doo sheds bitter tears as Dong-soo remarks that he will regret it his whole life if he lets Seon-joo go. Meanwhile, Hyeong-cheol spots Seon-joo at the company’s founding celebration and wonders how she got there. Man-bok suddenly introduces Seon-joo and Hye-joo to the guests and invites them to attend Seon-joo and Hyeong-cheol’s wedding...
Man-bok announces Seon-joo and Hyeong-cheol’s upcoming wedding in front of the party guests. At her father’s unexpected move, Seon-joo stands quivering while the rest of her family watches aghast. Hyeong-cheol is also taken aback by Man-bok’s ploy. Seon-joo staggers with shock and betrayal. Evading Hye-joo’s eyes, Seon-joo attempts another escape, but is captured once again by the men Man-bok has already put in place. Su-cheol asks Hyeong-cheol why he persists in his plan to marry Seon-joo and pleads with him to think of Sun-shim. Hyeong-cheol replies that it is not Seon-joo’s love for Dong-soo that he cannot acknowledge, but the idea that love is what determines the course of one’s life. Su-cheol observes that Hyeong-cheol’s obstinacy is making things even more difficult, but Hyeong-cheol remains unshakable. Meanwhile, Pil-doo seeks out Man-bok and begs him to consent to Dong-soo and Seon-joo’s marriage, since they refuse to give each other up. But Man-bok coldly pronounces that Dong-soo will never be his son-in-law no matter what happens, and Pil-doo is hurt by Man-bok’s attitude. Overhearing Pil-doo and Man-bok’s conversation, Seon-joo tells her father that she will agree to marry Hyeong-cheol...
Seon-joo tells Man-bok that she will marry Hyeong-cheol if he recompenses Dong-soo’s family for all that they have suffered and helps Dong-soo’s business as well. Gladdened by Seon-joo’s sudden change of heart, Man-bok agrees to do everything she asks. Swallowing their tears, Gwi-nyeo and O-bok watch helplessly as Seon-joo is forced to comply with her father’s demands. Hyeong-cheol takes Seon-joo home to meet his mother. Sun-shim finds it hard to look favorably on Seon-joo as she apologizes for her past behavior, and is even stunned to see Hyeong-cheol acting with complete nonchalance. Still, Hyeong-cheol is irritated by Seon-joo’s vacant and lifeless attitude. Meanwhile, Seon-joo wakes up at the crack of dawn to pack lunches for her and Dong-soo’s farewell trip to Chuncheon. Unaware of what’s really going on, Dong-soo is delighted to be out with Seon-joo. Saddened by the thought that everything will soon come to an end, Seon-joo kisses Dong-soo for the first time...
Seon-joo and Dong-soo have a wonderful time in Chuncheon. Hearing that Man-bok will allow him to see Seon-joo on the condition that he becomes successful, Dong-soo braces himself once more. He resolves to hold back his yearning for Seon-joo until he achieves success, saying there’s nothing he can’t do for Seon-joo’s sake. Moved by her faith in Dong-soo and her own sorrow, Seon-joo weeps. Man-bok tears up Hyeong-cheol’s resignation right before his eyes, and tells him to finalize the joint venture contract as soon as possible. Learning that Hyeong-cheol delayed the deal on purpose, Man-bok is disgruntled and cannot shake the feeling that he has somehow been tricked by Hyeong-cheol. Jae-hee is upset to think that she has been fired from the company because of Seon-joo, but suffers in silent frustration without being able to say a word to her family. After getting off to a smooth start, Dong-soo’s investment in the seaweed business begins to hit snag after snag. As a result, he becomes anxious that he might not be able to bring Seon-joo to his side soon enough. Meanwhile, Man-bok goes to Pil-doo, informs him of Seon-joo’s impending nuptials, and hands him an envelope filled with money...
After much hesitation, Pil-doo accepts Man-bok’s money. He tries to drown his misgivings in alcohol, and Dong-soo’s heart aches to see his father this way. While preparing for her wedding, Seon-joo sheds tears of longing for Dong-soo. Gwi-nyeo feels her heart go out to Seon-joo, who is bound by her bitter determination to walk down the aisle as she promised. Hye-joo shows up late to the video shoot because of the joint venture contract signing, and becomes exultant when Su-cheol comes to her defense. But she quarrels needlessly with him over the fact that Seon-joo and Hyeong-cheol’s marriage will soon make them in-laws. When the atmosphere turns strange, Hye-joo is assailed by inexplicable feelings. The day of Seon-joo and Hyeong-cheol’s wedding arrives. Hearing from Pil-doo about Seon-joo’s marriage and the money Man-bok gave him, Dong-soo rushes to the wedding hall. Shedding endless tears, Seon-joo opens the cell phone Man-bok has returned to her and listens to the voice message Dong-soo has left. She begins her walk down the aisle amid the applause of wedding guests, then abruptly turns around and runs out...
Seon-joo walks down the aisle with tears flowing down her cheeks. Suddenly, she shakes off Man-bok’s hand and runs out. Hyeong-cheol is flabbergasted by the unbelievable turn of events, and Sun-shim staggers on her feet. Yearning to see Dong-soo, Seon-joo gets into a taxi bound for Heukseok-dong. Meanwhile, Dong-soo arrives late at the wedding hall, and is accosted by the distraught Hyeong-cheol. Surmising the situation, Dong-soo hurriedly departs. Still in her wedding gown, Seon-joo is seized by the men Man-bok sent and dragged back against her will. She explains that she had resigned herself to marrying Hyeong-cheol for the sake of Dong-soo’s family, but that going through with the marriage would have been the death of both Dong-soo and herself. She declares that she will remain at Dong-soo’s side no matter what happens. When Dong-soo shows up at Seon-joo’s house, the furious Man-bok slaps him. Unable to bear being around Sun-shim as she staggers in shock, Hyeong-cheol goes outside. He refuses to answer Man-bok’s phone call. He recalls the words of Dong-soo and Seon-joo, and fumes at the thought of what they have put him through...
Man-bok locks Seon-joo in her room. He worries over the future fates of Hyeong-cheol, who has severed contact, and himself, after his public humiliation. Concerned for Seon-joo, Dong-soo stands vigil outside her house all through the night, and Gwi-nyeo and O-bok are moved by his caring and devotion. When Dong-soo avows that he will not leave Seon-joo alone any longer, Gwi-nyeo flinches, but still finds herself sympathizing with the affectionate and endearing young man. Seon-joo and Gwi-nyeo go to see Sun-shim. Enraged, Sun-shim slaps Seon-joo. With tears in her eyes, Seon-joo apologizes to Sun-shim, while the alarmed Su-cheol tries to calm his mother down. Sun-shim declares that she will make Seon-joo regret it if anything happens to Hyeong-cheol, and Seon-joo drops her head in silence. Pil-doo goes to Seon-joo’s house in order to return the money Man-bok has given him. As Pil-doo and Gwi-nyeo enjoy their reunion, Man-bok watches with sharp eyes. Still giving Pil-doo the cold shoulder, Man-bok announces that he will never accept Dong-soo. Appalled, Pil-doo states that he will have Seon-joo as his daughter-in-law no matter what it takes...
Dong-seok learns that Man-bok is the owner of the nightclub where he used to work and creates a ruckus at the club. Thrown in jail again, he loudly demands to see Man-bok. To save Dong-seok, Ji-seong dissuades the nightclub manager from informing Man-bok of what happened. Days go by with no word from Hyeong-cheol. Anxious, Sun-shim and Su-cheol decide to turn to the police. Just at that moment, Hyeong-cheol returns still clad in his tuxedo. He declares that he has put all his thoughts in order, and that he will go to work as usual. Sun-shim and Su-cheol are struck speechless by Hyeong-cheol’s astonishingly composed demeanor. Seeing Hyeong-cheol back at work, Man-bok offers him half of the company’s shares along with a promotion. Having anticipated such an offer, Hyeong-cheol accepts. Although discomfited, Man-bok tells himself that at least he has been able to hold onto Hyeong-cheol and looks upon him with a troubled mind...
Man-bok tries to secretly send Seon-joo away to the U.S. He tells Hye-joo that he has made a deal with Hyeong-cheol so that the latter will stay on at the company. Hearing about Hyeong-cheol from Hye-joo, Gwi-nyeo breathes a sigh of relief. But when she finds a plane ticket in Seon-joo’s name inside Man-bok’s jacket pocket, she tries to warn Seon-joo, who is still locked in her room, by writing her a note. Determined not to let Seon-joo be packed off to the U.S., Gwi-nyeo meets Dong-soo and asks him to take her daughter away. She tells him that she wants Seon-joo, if not herself, to live a happy life with the man she loves. Dong-soo promises Gwi-nyeo that he will take Seon-joo with him no matter what it takes. Dong-soo seeks help from Dong-seok, who is surprised by his brother’s changed attitude. Meanwhile, Hyeong-cheol is promoted to director of planning, and the other employees begin to gossip behind his back. Man-bok hands over the promised shares to Hyeong-cheol with an uneasy mind, miffed at the thought that the young man had already read all his moves in advance...
Devising a plan, Dong-soo disguises himself as a doctor and manages to get in to see Seon-joo with the help of Gwi-nyeo and O-bok. Her eyes brimming with tears, Gwi-nyeo joins Seon-joo and Dong-soo’s hands and tells them she has put all her faith in the two of them. Dong-soo says that he has found a way for Seon-joo to escape, but that he is worried about whether Seon-joo can pull it off. In response, Seon-joo declares that she can do anything if it means escaping her confinement. Jae-hee gets a position in the tourism development project team, according to Hyeong-cheol’s plan. Unaware of the truth, Jae-hee feels proud of herself for having found a job. When she runs into Hyeong-cheol at work, she is overjoyed. Learning Hyeong-cheol’s name at last, she finds her heart taking a leap at his warm smile. Meanwhile, Seon-joo attempts to escape the house using mountain-climbing rope, but is immediately captured by Man-bok. She pleads with her father one last time. Insisting that Dong-soo is the one person she can never be with, Man-bok confesses to Seon-joo that he is responsible for the ruin of Dong-soo’s family...
Seon-joo’s eyes fill with tears of shock at Man-bok’s confession that he is the person responsible for the ruin of Dong-soo’s family. Waiting outside the house for Seon-joo to emerge, Dong-soo becomes anxious when the appointed time passes by with no sign of her. Sensing that something is wrong, he rings the doorbell. Seon-joo tells him to just leave for today, saying that she will call him later on, but Dong-soo is stunned by her sudden brush-off. Faced with a reality she does not want to accept, Seon-joo weeps soundlessly, her breath catching in her throat. Man-bok, crushed with torment and shame before his daughter, turns to the bottle. As he downs drink after drink, he tells the bewildered Gwi-nyeo and O-bok that he will forgive them for having been party to Seon-joo’s attempt at flight. Meanwhile, Hye-joo loses her necklace during her company’s promotional video shoot. In her search, she enters a freezer that had been the setting for one of the scenes. Worried about her, Su-cheol follows Hye-joo into the freezer, but both are trapped inside when the door shuts on them. Frantic at the thought that they might die there, they confess their true feelings for each other…
Seon-joo pleads with Man-bok, saying that they must ask forgiveness of Dong-soo’s family no matter what, but Man-bok is unshakable. Trembling with disappointment too terrible even for thought, Seon-joo cries out that she will go and beg forgiveness herself if her father refuses to do so. Although he knows that Seon-joo will not be able to go through with it, Man-bok still finds his hands shaking. After wandering the streets in tears, Seon-joo goes to Dong-soo’s house. She listens to Ok-shim, who has been angered by the whole affair involving Seon-joo, and is assailed with guilt. When Pil-doo returns home, Seon-joo abruptly takes off, unable to face him, and Pil-doo is puzzled by her behavior. Meanwhile, Seon-joo tells Dong-soo, who has come to see her at her house, that they should stop seeing each other. Shocked, Dong-soo cannot quite believe her words. Seon-joo tells Gwi-nyeo that she has broken up with Dong-soo and asks her not to let him into the house if he ever comes back…
At a company dinner, Jae-hee’s coworkers accuse her of having acquired her job through a connection among the higher-ups, since she has no academic pedigree or professional experience to speak of. Hyeong-cheol comes to her aid, announcing that it was he who recommended her. Jae-hee is taken aback by Hyeong-cheol’s sudden act, but is deeply moved all the same. She becomes even more bewildered when he tells her that he wanted to keep her close by. Seon-joo takes to bed with a fever. When Man-bok tries to nurse her, she pushes his hand away. Still in the dark regarding Man-bok’s secret, Gwi-nyeo is frustrated by their inexplicable behavior. She is astounded to hear Man-bok say that he will take all the punishment on his own head. Meanwhile, Dong-soo accepts Seon-joo’s declaration of farewell and goes to her for a final confirmation. Seon-joo endeavors to put up a cool front and even flings away the ring Dong-soo had given her. Seon-joo yells at Dong-soo, who is filled with rage at her betrayal, to get out. As soon as he turns his back, however, she finds the ring again and weeps…
Without warning, Captain Ha comes calling at Man-bok’s house. He is bewildered by Gwi-nyeo’s cold reception, not knowing that she believes him to be responsible for the fall of Dong-soo’s family. O-bok is delighted to see Captain Ha, but is flabbergasted when she hears Gwi-nyeo say that he is the one who caused the accident on Pil-doo’s boat. Wise to Man-bok’s secret, Seon-joo becomes drunk and torments Man-bok by sarcastically praising him as a wonderful father who will stop at nothing to achieve success. Hye-joo tries to restrain her, as Man-bok watches in apprehension, worried that Seon-joo might say something more revealing. Meanwhile, with the promotional video shoot complete, Su-cheol suggests to Hye-joo that they start dating since they are obviously attracted to each other. Hye-joo reacts with horror, saying that Su-cheol could never be her match…
At Hwang’s direction, Dong-soo diligently seeks out health saunas and neighborhoods near women’s universities in order to sell his seaweed product. Moved by his passionate and sincere demeanor, people pay attention to him rather than dismissing him as a mere hawker. Dong-soo makes frank appeals to them to buy his product, saying that it is not just a thing but his dream, and Yeong-man is impressed by Dong-soo’s eloquence. Su-cheol hands Hye-joo the finished and edited promotional video, along with a tape containing images of Hye-joo from day to day. Hye-joo is touched by the unexpected gift, but steels her heart once more by reminding herself that Su-cheol is nowhere near the kind of man she has always dreamed of marrying. Meanwhile, Dong-soo meets Seon-joo and tells her that he will give her one more chance, now that he has found an investor for his business. In order to push Dong-soo away, Seon-joo declares that her love for him thus far had not really been love but an attempt to rebel against her father. Faced with words he had never expected to hear, Dong-soo is thrown into shock…
Seon-joo weeps in desperation, demanding why she had even been born, and Man-bok’s eyes fills with pained tears. Gwi-nyeo senses that there is some secret unknown to herself between Man-bok and Seon-joo, but Man-bok does not say anything more. Su-cheol and Hye-joo continue their emotional sparring even at the promotional video wrap party, where they are accompanied by the crew members. Su-cheol takes Hye-joo home after she gets drunk once again. As they exchange farewells, Hye-joo betrays her regret at their parting. Su-cheol kisses her, and they decide to officially begin dating. Meanwhile, Dong-soo finds it difficult to accept the fact that he and Seon-joo have parted. He gets drunk and becomes ill with a fever. Elsewhere, Hyeong-cheol is shocked to hear from Jae-hee that Dong-soo and Seon-joo have split up…
Hyeong-cheol is stunned by Jae-hee’s explanation that Dong-soo has been dumped by Seon-joo and has fallen ill. Sun-shim is struck with worry at the sound of Hyeong-cheol’s sighs. He dismisses her concern, saying that it’s just a problem at work, but Sun-shim becomes uneasy. Man-bok hears from Hyeong-cheol that a loan shark named Hwang is going to invest in Dong-soo’s venture. Hyeong-cheol observes that if Dong-soo secures the investment, it will create problems for the new seaweed project he is pursuing. He asks Man-bok to take Hwang out of the picture, but Man-bok averts his gaze, unsure whether he should make any hasty decisions now that Seon-joo and Dong-soo have already parted ways. Instead, he tells Hyeong-cheol that he will give the matter some thought. Meanwhile, Dong-soo sets out bright and early to sign his deal with Hwang, but does not even get to see the man. Pil-doo finds himself on pins and needles with worry for his son…
Dazed, Dong-soo sits all day at the bus stop, then comes home with the contract still in its envelope. Pil-doo chides him, asking if he has given up on the investment deal because of Seon-joo, but Pil-doo turns his back and tells Pil-doo to leave him alone. Sensing that something is upsetting Hyeong-cheol, she goes looking for him. Hyeong-cheol, who has been drinking, laughs in bitter astonishment at Jae-hee’s words of concern. He presses Jae-hee to tell him why her brother has broken up with his girlfriend. She tries to leave him alone out of consideration, but he suddenly pins her to the wall and kisses her. Meanwhile, Dong-soo visits a company that hires sailors to find work on a ship. Seon-joo, resolving to save up some money and go to school abroad, visits an overseas study brokerage firm…
The next day, Hyeong-cheol is discomfited to see that he has made Jae-hee uncomfortable by kissing her out of the blue. He urges her to have lunch at least before she leaves the office, but she counters that she needs to go home early to take care of the ailing Dong-soo. When Hyeong-cheol finds out that Seon-joo was the one who broke things off with Dong-soo, he goes to her and tells her to marry Dong-soo at any cost since she so cruelly trampled on his feelings for the sake of love. In tears, Pil-doo pleads with Dong-soo not to board the illegal ocean-going ship on which he has gotten work. But Dong-soo, who has already lost his senses, refuses to listen. At his wit’s end, Pil-doo goes to Seon-joo and begs her to save Dong-soo. When she meets Dong-soo, however, he only repeats words of farewell. Meanwhile, Captain Ha, learning how Man-bok has deceived him and shirked all the blame onto his shoulders, goes to seek him out…
Seon-joo sits under a neighborhood arbor where she once spent time with Dong-soo, crying profusely at the thought of him. On his way home, Dong-soo comes across Seon-joo as she sits weeping. When she entreats him not to board the ship, he pulls her into his arms. The morning after their tearful reconciliation, Seon-joo and Dong-soo get on a bus to Yangpyeong with their hands locked lovingly in each other’s. Man-bok, who has won a bidding contract for a tourist town, is stunned to receive a phone call from Seon-joo informing him of her plan to marry Dong-soo. Avowing that she will no longer live as his daughter, she announces that she will live at Dong-soo’s side with a penitent heart. Seon-joo and Dong-soo walk around downtown Yangpyeong, picking out their wedding attire and buying rings. They are united in a quiet but happy wedding ceremony at a secluded cathedral…
Dong-soo and Seon-joo take an eternal vow of love and share a blissful kiss in their joy at being united as one. But Seon-joo’s eyes fill with tears of guilt and self-reproach, and Dong-soo is discomfited by the sense that she continues to blame herself. The two of them join hands, pledging to forget the past and never to say goodbye. All the while, however, Man-bok is becoming anxious in his pursuit of Seon-joo’s whereabouts.
While making kimchi pancakes, Su-cheol and Sun-shim decide to take some to Hye-joo, who is working overnight to prepare for an investor relations event. Meanwhile, Hyeong-cheol is unable to suppress his rage at Seon-joo’s marriage. He gets Jae-hee in his car and heads to the ocean...
Dong-soo and Seon-joo return home from their quiet wedding to find Ok-shim rigid with anger. Baffled by Ok-shim’s ice-cold demeanor, Dong-soo checks himself as he starts to bow to her, and kneels in front of her together with Seon-joo. When Dong-soo passionately defends Seon-joo, Ok-shim relents somewhat. Entering their new room, the newlyweds are filled with emotion.
Jae-hee feels uneasy at the lack of contact from Hyeong-cheol, but he finds her uncalculating innocence merely burdensome. Meanwhile, Sun-shim asks her neighbors to find a good match for Hyeong-cheol.
Shocked by the news that Seon-joo has already filed her marriage certificate, Man-bok throws the festive food Gwi-nyeo and O-bok were preparing into the kitchen sink. Gwi-nyeo entreats him to accept Seon-joo’s marriage, but Man-bok grits his teeth and declares that he’ll never acknowledge it even if a dozen marriage certificates are issued...
After spending a dreamlike night at Dong-soo’s, Seon-joo pokes her new husband’s cheek in sheer disbelief at finding herself next to him. Aided by Pil-doo, who had thus far been entrusted with the housework, Seon-joo prepares breakfast for the family and declares that she’ll apply herself to whatever she needs to learn. Pil-doo is touched to see her resolve.
Dong-soo goes to Hwang and begs him for a chance to explain, but Hwang kicks him out saying he has no time to spare even for excuses. Perplexed, Dong-soo goes back into the office and tells Hwang that he had a compelling reason for giving up the chance of a lifetime, but Hwang simply ignores him.
Jae-hee lovingly prepares a lunchbox and sends Hyeong-cheol a text message. But Hyeong-cheol looks at her with dry indifference. He asks why he should eat the lunch she has made and walks off...
Pil-doo picks out wallpaper for Dong-soo and Seon-joo’s room. Observing that it must be uncomfortable for a newly married couple to use a room in the main portion of the house, Pil-doo tries to give up his own room for Dong-soo. Moved by his father’s concern, Dong-soo feels his heart becoming tight with emotion. When he tells Pil-doo that his meeting with Hwang did not go well, Pil-doo advises him to keep trying, rhetorically asking if he thought convincing Hwang would be easy.
Jae-hee returns home utterly crestfallen. In the kitchen, Seon-joo is surprised to see Jae-hee as she prepares to put away the untouched lunchbox. Concerned, Seon-joo asks Jae-hee if she didn’t even get to have lunch because she had a fight with her boyfriend. Jae-hee responds by saying that she just can’t tell what someone might be thinking. Her eyes filling with tears, she confesses that she has cared for Hyeong-cheol from the beginning, and Seon-joo’s heart aches for her.
Meanwhile, Dong-soo goes to see Hwang once more and beseeches him for another chance. Seon-joo, who had been watching the scene, asks Hwang to forgive Dong-soo, since it was for her sake that he could not keep his promise. But Hwang had been secretly hoping to make Dong-soo his son-in-law and becomes enraged at hearing that Dong-soo reneged on his promise because of a woman. In response, Seon-joo begins to clean the office...

He vents his guilty feelings by getting angry at her, but she merely sheds tears of both sorrow and gladness. Hyeong-cheol struggles desperately not to give his heart to Jae-hee, who is none other than Dong-soo’s sister. Meanwhile, Man-bok goes to Hwang and asks him not to provide capital for Dong-soo. Seon-joo, on the other hand, tells Hwang that she is greatly at fault for marrying Dong-soo and pleads with him to give Dong-soo one more chance...

Unaware of her inner turmoil, Su-cheol formally asks Hye-joo to be his girlfriend, handing her a single flower and the synopsis of his directorial debut. Flustered, Hye-joo complains that the gesture is too unmemorable. Su-cheol wonders at Hye-joo’s discombobulated attitude, then finds Min-jae’s name in Hye-joo’s cell phone, which she mistakenly left behind. Although a novice at keeping house, Seon-joo tries hard to placate Ok-shim and adapt to life with Dong-soo’s family. She gives Pil-doo, who complains of an upset stomach, potato juice that she has made herself, and Dong-soo is moved to see her efforts. Even Ok-shim is not entirely displeased with Seon-joo’s charming ways as she goes busily about trying to be a housewife. Later, Sun-shim comes across Seon-joo peddling clothes in front of the local butcher’s shop, and Seon-joo freezes with surprise at seeing Sun-shim...
Sun-shim frets, saying she cannot understand why Seon-joo would want to peddle clothes. Having sold every last one of her wares, Seon-joo is delighted. While cleaning the house, Seon-joo is pained to see the roughened hands of the sleeping Ok-shim and gives her a hand massage using a special cream. Moved by his kind gesture, Jae-hee blurts out that she has been in love with him from the start. Seon-joo asks Dong-soo who his first love was. He happily recalls that there was a pretty and warmhearted woman in Wan-do. Astonished and disappointed, Seon-joo sheds helpless tears and retreats into Jae-hee’s room. Jae-hee asks Hyeong-cheol if he tried to keep her at his side because she is Dong-soo’s sister. After confirming the fact, her eyes fill with tears of disbelief. Hyeong-cheol, who has been struggling to put on an indifferent front, is shaken by Jae-hee’s devastated expression. Hearing him say that everything has been intentional, she tells him he doesn’t need to explain any more. She does not even express any anger, and he is taken aback by her response. As she walks away, he watches in consternation. Seon-joo realizes that Man-bok is trying to hinder Dong-soo’s business. She goes to a store employee and proposes that the store hold a blind tasting of seaweed products. Explaining that she is the daughter of the head of Idaeyang Marine Products and wife of Dong-soo, she asks him for a chance at a fair competition. Although he finds her words difficult to believe, the store employee accepts her proposal. Meanwhile, Hye-joo engages in a heated discussion over Su-cheol’s screenplay and is exhilarated to feel that she shares a connection with him. In a good mood, Hye-joo is about to go to dinner with Su-cheol when she is disconcerted by a call from Min-jae...
Dong-soo, Seon-joo, and Jae-hee encounter Hyeong-cheol at the store. Seon-joo notices with puzzlement that Hyeong-cheol keeps glancing at Jae-hee. Jae-hee, her heart aching, pretends not to notice as she offers her brother’s product to customers. Man-bok’s face turns ashen, and Dong-soo declares that he will give Man-bok a chance to ask forgiveness for Seon-joo’s sake. However, Man-bok offers not a word in apology; instead, he says he will take care of it and sends Dong-soo away. While drinking with Su-cheol, Hye-joo cries her heart out, saying how embarrassed and hurt she is at being turned down as a daughter-in-law by a rich family because of her past. Su-cheol maturely consoles her by telling her that it is not a mistake for an adult to have been in love and that she shouldn’t be ashamed of love. Hye-joo finds Su-cheol admirable, and the two fall asleep in the car. Meanwhile, Man-bok summons Dong-soo and offers him monetary compensation in exchange for sending Seon-joo back. Stunned and appalled, Dong-soo demands to know if he feels any sympathy at all for his daughter, who will have no idea what really happened. He acts warmly toward her and asks her to get angry at him rather than keeping up her cold and indifferent treatment of him. Jae-hee looks at Hyeong-cheol in astonishment when he follows her home after work. He gets on the bus with her, and tells her that she looks pretty from the back as well, cracking an abashed smile at his own changed attitude. Meanwhile, Su-cheol calls Hye-joo out to a swanky bar and delivers a dashing proposal. Moved to tears, Hye-joo kisses Su-cheol...
Seon-joo goes to Man-bok and asks him what he plans to do now. Acting as if nothing is the matter, he tells her that he will take care of it and demands that she leave Dong-soo’s house. Stunned, Seon-joo notes that he should ask forgiveness first and foremost, but is disconcerted by Man-bok’s casuistic reply that you can’t ask forgiveness when you’ve already been found out. Seon-joo pleads with Man-bok to reflect on himself and see Pil-doo, but Man-bok has no intention of either seeing Pil-doo or asking his forgiveness. The terrified Captain Ha flees the scene and Dong-soo, at a loss, cradles Pil-doo in his arms. Sun-shim visits Gwi-nyeo and informs her that Su-cheol and Hye-joo are dating, chiding her to keep a tighter rein on her daughters. After Sun-shim pours out all her resentful feelings, the flabbergasted Gwi-nyeo denies that Hye-joo could do such a thing. Sun-shim tells Gwi-nyeo to stop Hye-joo from seeing Su-cheol, and Gwi-nyeo responds that she will certainly do so. Her pride wounded by Gwi-nyeo’s unexpectedly haughty attitude, Sun-shim ends up asking Gwi-nyeo to call her with confirm once the deed is done. Unable to suppress his rage, Pil-doo goes to Man-bok’s house and implores Man-bok to tell him that what he heard isn’t true. Pil-doo fiercely reproaches Seon-joo, now on her knees, for marrying Dong-soo when she already knew everything. Dong-soo stands watching helplessly, then offers up the explanation that Seon-joo did not know the truth when she got married, in order to lessen Pil-doo’s anger. As the family coldly turns their backs on her, Seon-joo finally registers the situation and becomes dazed. Unable to wait for Gwi-nyeo’s confirmation, Sun-shim calls Hye-joo to her house. When she asks why they are seeing each other if they’re not even going to get married, Su-cheol finds himself at a loss and Hye-joo’s face turns ashen. Meanwhile, Pil-doo recovers a measure of composure. He reproves Dong-soo for not telling him the truth sooner, but knows that Dong-soo had no choice because of Seon-joo. Hearing Pil-doo say that he won’t let this go quietly, Dong-soo becomes unsettled even though he knows that Pil-doo’s response is only natural...
Seon-joo is flustered by Ok-shim’s declaration that they must go to Man-bok immediately and get him thrown in jail. Dong-seok tries to divert the situation by noting that Man-bok still hasn’t come to beg forgiveness even though the truth has been revealed, but everyone is already set in cold reproach. Pil-doo wavers when he recalls the happy moments he spent with Dong-soo and Seon-joo, but is unable to look favorably on Seon-joo while knowing that she is Man-bok’s daughter. Jae-hee, who has forgotten Hyeong-cheol’s appointment with Dong-soo because of the chaos at home, bursts into tears in front of the hapless Hyeong-cheol. Seeing his concern for her, she is overcome with emotion and tells him everything that has been happening at home. When Hyeong-cheol hears about Man-bok’s secret, he is stunned by the knowledge. Meanwhile, Hye-joo goes to see Sun-shim. She tells Sun-shim not to worry about Su-cheol’s relationship with her since they will never get married…
Sun-shim is outraged to see Seon-joo and Ok-shim walking side by side. The grocery store owner expresses her puzzlement at the fact that Seon-joo has married into a poor family that treats her terribly. Sun-shim, her pride wounded further, puts on a rigid face. Dong-soo becomes ecstatic when his seaweed product’s debut on the home shopping network is confirmed, and Jae-hee and Young-man join in the happy mood. Dong-soo suddenly recalls Seon-joo, but is unwilling to share the news with her. At Dong-soo’s suggestion that they have a celebration, Pil-doo thinks of Seon-joo and feels uneasy. Meanwhile, Dong-soo tells Seon-joo that he knows what she was thinking when she came to him and why, but that he is angry because what she did was simply unacceptable. Remarking that the one person he must never love in this world is Seon-joo, Dong-soo announces to her that their marriage is over…
Unable to forgive Man-bok, Dong-soo tells Seon-joo that they are over, despite his aching heart. To Seon-joo, who struggles to accept his words, he explains that her presence is not only an injury to his family but to herself as well. Gwi-nyeo, who had been hovering outside Dong-soo’s house out of concern for Seon-joo, kneels before Dong-soo’s family and tearfully begs their forgiveness in Man-bok’s stead. But at that moment, the envelope of money that Man-bok sent arrives, and Dong-soo’s family members are outraged by Man-bok’s unrepentant actions. In the end, Dong-soo makes a grave announcement before his family…
Dong-soo’s family is stunned into silence by his sudden pronouncement that he is leaving Seon-joo. When he explains that he decided to end his marriage because Seon-joo is too much for his family to endure, Seon-joo stares at him in shock. Ok-shim finds her feelings in turmoil at Dong-soo’s words, while Pil-doo goes to his room in wordless acquiescence of his son’s decision. Pil-doo looks at Man-bok with disappointment and betrayal for the latter’s attempt to resolve matters with money. He declares to Man-bok that he will never forgive him and even threatens to kill him. Although wracked by guilt, Man-bok states that if Pil-doo refuses to accept the money, he will crush Dong-soo. Galled by Man-bok’s outrageous threat, Pil-doo tears up the envelope containing the money. Meanwhile, Gwi-nyeo tries to get Seon-joo to come home with her, but Seon-joo remains immovable. Pil-doo happens to overhear their conversation and learns that Seon-joo married Dong-soo despite knowing the truth about her father…
Unable to suppress his fury, Pil-doo moves to hit Seon-joo as she trembles in fear with tears streaming down her face. Seon-joo pleads for his forgiveness and tries to explain her side of the story, but Pil-doo refuses to heed her words. Appalled, Ok-shim also berates Seon-joo. Sun-shim, who is unaware that Hyeong-cheol has given up his shares in the company, looks suspiciously on him as he relaxes with Su-cheol. However, she has no choice but to believe Hyeong-cheol’s declaration that he wants to take the time to enjoy life from now on. She also confirms that Su-cheol is no longer seeing Hye-joo. Meanwhile, Pil-doo seeks out a lawyer and inquires whether any extra-legal punishments are available for a case which has passed its statute of limitations. Ok-shim comes upon Seon-joo doing the laundry and pushes her away, telling her to stay away from the housework. Surprised by Ok-shim’s vehement attitude, Seon-joo ends up being run out of the house…

Hyeong-cheol becomes thoughtful when he hears that people who were lobbied about the tourist town he planned at Idaeyang Marine Products are coming to visit the company. Hye-joo calls Su-cheol to apologize, but Su-cheol answers coldly and ignores her words. While talking over his movie synopsis with a producer at a cafe, Su-cheol recalls Hye-joo and becomes bitter. Suddenly, he is flustered to find himself doused with water by Hye-joo, who is standing before him. Hye-joo beats her chest in frustrated anger and calls herself an idiot for having put her faith in love, but Su-cheol smiles at hearing the word “love” in her tirade. Meanwhile, Gwi-nyeo visits Man-bok at the office and lays down divorce papers before him. Man-bok tries to appear nonchalant but is unspeakably shaken with shock…
Jae-hee comes to meet Sun-shim at Hyeong-cheol’s invitation, but Sun-shim recognizes her for Ok-shim’s granddaughter at a single glance and becomes aghast. Hyeong-cheol, who had not expected Sun-shim to recognize Jae-hee, is taken aback by the complicated turn of affairs and ends up explaining the truth. When he states that he intends to marry Jae-hee, Sun-shim gets up and storms into her room. Seon-joo is rushed to the hospital when the extreme stress she is under causes her stomach to go into convulsions. Dong-soo, struck with guilt, feels his heart ache for her. Vowing not to regret having loved Seon-joo, he turns his back on her as she lies in the hospital bed, as if for the last time. Instinctively divining Dong-soo’s intentions, Seon-joo takes a taxi and escapes to Dong-soo’s house. Meanwhile, seeing Seon-joo back at the house, Ok-shim calls her thick-skinned and brings up the painful past. Pil-doo tries to put himself in Dong-soo’s shoes for the first time. He tells him to take Seon-joo and live on their own…
Pil-doo wakes Seon-joo at the crack of dawn and begs her to leave, since he can never forgive Man-bok. Hearing him explain that he can’t take revenge on Man-bok with her there, Seon-joo bursts into tears and says she cannot leave because she hasn’t yet returned all the love they’ve given her. Unable to watch any longer, Dong-soo packs Seon-joo’s bags himself as he holds back his own tears. Hyeong-cheol cooks, for the first time in his life, for Sun-shim, who has taken to bed over the situation involving Jae-hee. However, Sun-shim is angered even more by his efforts. When Hyeong-cheol announces that he deeply loves Jae-hee, her jaw drops with shock. Meanwhile, Jae-hee sheds tears, her own situation causing her to sympathize with Seon-joo and Dong-soo’s pain. Seon-joo goes to Man-bok and implores him to ask Dong-soo’s family for forgiveness, for her sake. But Man-bok refuses to do so, saying that there is no way to undo his past actions. Finally, Dong-soo presents Seon-joo with divorce papers…
After seeing the divorce papers, Seon-joo clings desperately to Dong-soo, saying she will remain by his side till the end. Dong-soo hides his aching heart by getting mad at her. He explains that he made the decision for the sake of his family, and turns an agonized gaze on Seon-joo. He takes Seon-joo, who is weeping uncontrollably, into his arms and bursts into tears himself. Meanwhile, Pil-doo finds his resolve wavering at the sight of Dong-soo’s painful deicision. Dong-seok exerts every effort to set up A-ra with Mr. Roh, but only ends up angering and disappointing A-ra. Seon-joo leaves the house while Dong-soo is asleep. Dong-soo belatedly follows her down the alley, crying like a madman, but Seon-joo walks on without even a backward glance. Ok-shim is stunned into silence at Sun-shim’s declaration that she has no intention of becoming in-laws with her. Meanwhile, Seon-joo moves into a small room in Dong-soo’s neighborhood...
Pil-doo and Ok-shim feel bitterness at Seon-joo’s absence, while Seon-joo sets herself up in a shabby room she has rented. Pil-doo shows his family the petition for reinvestigation into the accident, and begins the final confirmation. Dong-soo glances at the document with a gloomy expression, and Pil-doo empathizes with his pain. Seeing Dong-soo weep noiselessly so that his family cannot hear, Pil-doo finds his legs giving out under him. Unable to win Dong-seok’s heart, A-ra tells him that he is no longer wanted at the restaurant. Dong-seok is stunned at the unexpected turn of events. When A-ra declares that she will keep business and personal feelings separate, Dong-seok acts delighted at finally being free, but feels regret in a corner of his heart. But Seon-joo, unwilling to see anyone yet, hangs up after telling Gwi-nyeo not to worry since she is doing fine. Seon-joo devotes herself to her job, not even taking calls from Dong-soo. When Su-cheol catches a bad cold, Hye-joo goes to visit him at his house. Unfortunately, Sun-shim unexpectedly barges in, and Hye-joo hides herself under the covers. Flustered, Su-cheol explains that he was changing his clothes, but Sun-shim suspects the truth and throws back the covers, to Hye-joo’s consternation. Sun-shim asks Hye-joo why she insists on hurting her parents if she does not even plan on marrying Su-cheol, and Hye-joo counters by making the shocking pronouncement that marriage is not out of the question. Meanwhile, Dong-soo, who has been personally delivering his seaweed product to clients, happens to make a delivery at the restaurant where Seon-joo works. He sees Seon-joo as she comes walking with a tray of empty bowls perched on top of her head...
